Workshops & Registration
Session 1: 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. ($12 per participant)
Bewitching Bats (Ages 4+) | Sign up
Bats hide during the day, so we don’t get to see them. These sneaky critters still help our environment by eating pesky insects. Come learn about bats in Rhode Island, and craft your own bat puppet.
Jack’O’Lanterns Turnips (Ages 7 – 9) | Sign Up
The first jack-o’-lanterns were made from turnips just like the ones found in our historic garden. Head to the turnip patch and pull your own root while we learn more about the past stories about this annual tradition. Create your own historic turnip face to turn in the perfect Jack O’Lantern that fits in your hand.
Scarecrows (Ages 10+) | Sign Up
Scarecrows are a spooky-season favorite when it comes to the farm! Not only are they used for decorating the farm, but they also play an important role when it comes to protecting our crops. Join us on the farm to learn about the history of scarecrows as well as the animals they’re meant to spook. We’ll even build our own scarecrow for the farm.
Session 2: 11:00 – 12:00 p.m. ($12 per participant)
Scales and Slime (Ages 4 +) | Sign Up
Lets learn all about creatures that slither and hop. Head out to find clues about these creatures found around the farm. Create your own spiraling snake to use as a spooky home decoration for the season.
Get Whimsical With Whittling (Ages 7 – 9) | Sign Up
Whittling is a traditional way to carve small pieces of wood into fun toys and useful tools. You can whittle in a workshop or while traveling. All you need is a knife and material to carve. Join us to practice whittling soap and bring out the sculpture within.
Old Fashioned Candy (Ages 10+) | Sign Up
Did you know that people have been making candy for almost 4,000 years? It’s true! From ancient Egypt to now people have been making and enjoying candy of all kinds. Join us on the farm as we make and sample some of the candies that our 18th century Americans would have enjoyed.
