Coggeshall Farm Museum in Bristol, RI
Join Coggeshall Farm for a Homeschool Day! Homeschool day has a rotating series of programs and workshops geared for ages 4+ that bring the historic world to life. This program is for advance sign-up only and includes the cost of admission. It also features a variety of self-guided activities for all ages.

Things to know:
- Coggeshall Farm Museum will be closed to the public on this day except for participating homeschoolers. Your child must be registered for at least one workshop to attend.
- Classes are $10 per homeschooler and admission for accompanying grownups is free.
- Pre-registration is required for all activities listed below.
- These are not drop-in programs and our staff will have a list of registrants for each workshop.
- Please let us know as soon as possible if you need to cancel your workshop tickets. There is a high demand for these workshops and we would like to be able to offer spots to other participants. You can contact us at coggeshalled@osv.org.
- Students’ guardians must stay in close proximity of the program location for the entire duration of the activity for safety reasons.
Workshops & Registration
Session 1: 9:30 – 10:30 a.m.
Turkey Time (Ages 4+)
Come out and enjoy a story about turkeys, one of the first domesticated birds of our area. Create a turkey call and make a turkey craft. After all the turkey talk, we’ll take a short walk through our nature trail to find signs and sounds of the resident wild turkeys.

Did you know that apple cider was the most popular beverage for early Americans? Warm up by the fire and learn how to brew your very own historic apple cider, create a sweet-smelling apple decoration, and learn more about this age-old tradition just in time for the holidays!
Young Fermenters: Time-Traveling Through Taste (Ages 10+)
In this engaging historical culinary adventure, kids aged 10 and above will step back in time to explore the art of fermentation. Discover the fascinating history behind pickling and learn how to transform ordinary vegetables into sweet, savory, and spicy delights. Dive into the past as we ferment cabbages into tangy sauerkraut and savor the unique taste of fermented sweet drinks like switchel.

Caring for Cows (Ages 4+)

Come visit the farm to learn all about one of your favorite farm animals, the cow! Read along during a fun cow-themed story time, help the farmers feed our cattle friends, and participate in a fun cow craft that you get to take home and show your friends!
Flavors, Fats, and Fun: Butter Churning, Infused Oils, and Healthy Cooking for Kids (Ages 7+)

Calling all young culinary explorers! Join us for a delightful adventure in the kitchen where we’ll learn about the amazing world of flavors, fats, and nutrition. In this hands-on class we’ll dive into the fun of butter churning, discover the secrets of making herb, garlic, and flower-infused oils, and even explore the fascinating facts about healthy fatty acids.
The Art and History of Embroidery (Ages 10+)
Try your hand at some simple sewing! Learn about patterns and colors that make up an embroidery project. Participants will learn how to make a fun fall embroidery that they can take home to show friends and family.
