Join Coggeshall Farm for a Homeschool Day! Homeschool day has a rotating series of programs and workshops geared for ages 4+ that bring the historic world to life. This program is for advance sign-up only and includes the cost of admission. It also features a variety of self-guided activities for all ages.

Things to know:
- Coggeshall Farm Museum will be closed to the public on this day except for participating homeschoolers. Your child must be registered for at least one workshop to attend.
- Classes are $10 per homeschooler and admission for accompanying grownups is free.
- Pre-registration is required for all activities listed below.
- These are not drop-in programs and our staff will have a list of registrants for each workshop.
- Please let us know as soon as possible if you need to cancel your workshop tickets. There is a high demand for these workshops and we would like to be able to offer spots to other participants. You can contact us at coggeshalled@osv.org.
- Students’ guardians must stay in close proximity of the program location for the entire duration of the activity for safety reasons.
Workshops & Registration
Session 1: 9:30 – 10:30 a.m.
Seeds Everywhere! (Ages 4+) | 9:30-10:30 a.m.
Spring is the season of planting! Listen to a story about the tiny seeds that fill our world and learn about the wonderful things that grow from them. After, move and stretch with some plant yoga, and make a seed collage to bring home.
From Wool to Yarn (Ages 7+) | 9:30-10:30 a.m.

Participants in this workshop will learn all about transforming dirty wool on the sheep into vibrant colorful warn! We will meet the sheep, practice carding and spinning, learn about historic dyes, and then, we will dye our own skein of wool yarn using a modern dye: kool-aid!
Book Binding & Marble Paper ( Ages 10+) | 9:30-10:30 a.m.
During the 1790s, printing was a very important job. Printers in a town like Bristol printed posters, books, and pamphlets. Learn all about how a book is put together before sewing your own using traditional bookbinding methods. We’ll also marble the cover for an artistic finish.
Break: 10:30 a.m.
Try out some historic games in between classes in the Coggeshall Work Yard! Free for all class participants. (This will be an independent activity not led by an instructor)

Chicken and Eggs! (Ages 4+) | 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

Learn more about the life cycles of chickens while taking a close-up look at the Dominique chickens on the farm. Head out in search of some eggs and create your own chicken craft to bring home.
Wildlife Walk (Ages 7+) | 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
Coggeshall Farm Museum is home to many different kinds of wildlife. The farm provides an amazing habitat for animals like turkey, deer, and mink. Head out on our nature trail in search of signs of the animals that call the farm home and learn about the things that make up a good habitat.
Fire-starting (Ages 10+) | 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
Turn up the heat with this fire-starting class for our tweens and teens. Learn how to cut and split wood, gather tinder, use a flint and steel, and even toast a beloved turn-of-the-19th-century delicacy– a marshmallow!
