Weaving with Corn Husk led by Silvermoon of the Tomaquag Museum

Join Silvermoon LaRose of the Tomaquag Museum at Coggeshall Farm for a demonstration and discussion on the art and history of corn husk weaving. Before the age of manufactured textiles, people crafted everyday objects by hand, often using plant-based materials. For many Native communities, corn husk was one of those essential resources. In this workshop, you’ll learn the traditional technique of corn husk weaving, transforming a material that’s often discarded into something purposeful. Working with zero waste in mind, you’ll create a mini woven mat to take home, connecting you to a sustainable, handcrafted practice rooted in Indigenous ingenuity. No experience needed, smaller hands will need adult support. All materials provided.
This program is designed for ages 12 and over.
